Old-Fashioned On Purpose by Jill Winger: My Review
Old-Fashioned On Purpose by Jill Winger
Old-Fashioned On Purpose is a call to action for anyone interested in simple living. Jill presents an inspiring outlook on the potential of modern life combined with old-fashioned values. With chapters on cooking, gardening, raising children and more, she offers thought provoking solutions for modern day problems.
My favorite tip I picked up from this book is this: At the end of the day when you’re exhausted from computer work, do something tactile with your hands. Chop vegetables for dinner. It’s amazing how your brain will switch over and you’ll feel so awake and refreshed. Now, this is not to say that you shouldn’t rest when tired, but much of the time, at least for me, sitting down on the couch and zoning out won’t really make me feel rested because it’s not my body that is craving rest, it’s my mind.
I was giddy when I found out there is a photo insert!
Old-Fashioned On Purpose is an amazing book that I highly recommend to people interested in simple living, homesteading or even just feeling dissatisfied with modern living. I appreciate that she doesn’t advocate for returning to archaic times. She suggests that we take the values of those old lifestyles and apply them to modern living. The value these skills provide is not limited to the past, but can offer a positive impact to our future.
