About Me

Who I am

Greetings dearest reader! I’m Ariel, a daughter of the King, a lover of simple living, most things cottage-core and light academia, and literature. For as long as I can remember, my heart’s desire was to be married, have a family and live in the country on a small farm. I have always loved animals and I spent my childhood around horses, goats and chickens.

My journey

Fast-forward several years to adulthood. I work a full-time job in a field related to agriculture. I married the love of my life and we bought a house in the suburbs. Two years later we welcomed our son into our lives.

I had never been interested in the care of a household and had resisted spending the time necessary to learn. I thought that “I had better things to do with my time”. Therefore I found myself woefully unprepared to successfully manage a home, so I began to research and learn the skills I was lacking. God did an incredible 180 in my heart! He showed me that the things I had been resisting were actually some of the most important tasks I could bless my family with. Clean dishes, clean laundry, a lived-in but uncluttered home. But most importantly, it was my attitude of doing these tasks in love that would bless my family.

My interest in creating a homestead in my backyard grew out of my childhood love of farming and as an additional way to bless my family. It’s an avenue to provide the freshest, most nutritious fruits, vegetables and eggs. Additionally, it is a wonderful opportunity to teach my son the traditional skills that our fast-paced world often overlooks or deems unimportant. From starting a vegetable garden and raising chickens to preserving food and crafting homemade goods, each skill offers accomplishment and enrichment.

My mission

I want to share my passion for a simpler way of life, to merge the beautiful with the practical. My goal is to share knowledge and inspiration to assist you in creating your dream cottage home, with a specific focus on simple living skills that can be easily incorporated into an already busy life. As a full-time working mom, I know first hand that trying to adopt a lifestyle fitted for a stay-at-home mom while still working will put you on a fast track to burnout and frustration. I will focus on skills and projects that can improve our lives and yet be completed in the margins of our busy days. I would love it if you would come along for the ride!
